A Guide to Befallen : Cavern of the Afflicted

Location : Southern Commonlands

Shard quest NPC – Squire Hadley (631, -64, 823)

Quests to get before entering – Putting a curse to rest

Quests in the zone – A Bone to Grind , Uncovering the Truth , The Book of Thex HQ

key mob – A Thieving Jester, invis and very small, in corner of room containing the second maledictive Terror

Each group member should take a stack of Dedicated Noxious Remedy (potions which cure poison/disease)

Upon entering the zone make sure no-one moves forward until you are all ready to start fighting.
On the wall near the start is a clickable torch that can be collected, this is required later on in the zone. Only one member can take the torch, but it is tradeable)
Directly infront of the group will be the first mob to kill (a pile of bone sonthe floor which will pop up when you get close)
There are also wandering mobs in the corridor.
Once you start fighting here, you must continue and move fast. The groups respawn and respawn quite quickly. They will continue to respawn until you kill a ‘Maledictive Terror’.
The Terror on the top floor can be found in the first room on your right.

There are a couple of tactics that can be used here.
Body pull the first group. Be sure not to cast any spells or attacks until the whole group is at your location (The groups of mobs can have anything up to 6 or 7 members) . The mobs are spread around a large area, and if you attack while they are in range of another group, then that group will attack also).
Once you have killed all but 2 of the group, move to the next group and engage them, repeat this until you reach the Terror and kill it asap.
The Maledictive Terrors will not move from their spawn location, so you have to take the fight to them.

The other tactic, if you cant keep ahead of the respawns, is for the whole group to run through all of the groups, charge in to small room to the left of the Terror (where Fallen Scholar Edgar is).
The whole group needs to run into the far corner and someone has to Feign death.
Once all the chasing mobs have reset and returned to their spawn points, it should be possible for the FD’d person to stand up and rez the healer/rez the group.
From here you can kill the named and fight across to the Terror with ease.

Once the top-floor Terror is defeated. clear the entire upper area.
In a room off of the one containing the Terror is the first named

Fallen Scholar Edgar  

This named did not seem to require any specific tactics. He dd have a lot of health.

 

 

 

he will drop ‘A Curious Tome’ (One for each group member)
this is the quest starter for the HQ The Book of Thex
The first part of this quest requires each person to gather 10 pages within the zone.
Only 10 pages will spawn at any time. Once all pages have been gathered another 10 will spawn in the same locations.
Its probably best to leave all the pages until you have cleared the zone, then collect them all one person at a time.
A page spawns at the location where you killed the first Maledictive terror. A group of zombies will continue to respawn here so will need to be killed several times whiel you collect the pages.

In the right-hand room, there is a Dwarf fighting some zombies.
Kill the zombies and you will be able to get a quest  from the Dwarf.
the quest is A Bone to Grind. This quest requires you to kill The Bonegrinder , the final named in the zone.

Once the top level is cleared you need to proceed to the lower level by jumping down the well.
there are several Zombies at the bottom, so its best if the tank goes first and imediatly runs to one side and engages.
Once all the zombies around the bottom of the well are dead you will get an onscreen message and the next named will climb out of the floor

The Undead Jester  

This named will spawn undead adds at random intervals.
When these appear target them and take them down asap then return to the named.

 

 

 

Follow the sloping corridor down until you get to the top of a high wall.
You will see several floating , unattackable, Frightfull Darkenings. if you get to close to these they will put a short mez type effect on you.
Jump down into the water and click the statue there to dispell the Darklings (This may require one of the group having the torch from the beginning).

Head back up to the end of the well-corridor.
With your back to the well, head to the right. There is a tunnel here that leads to a room full  of fires.
Burning undead will spawn from these fires.
In this room is also the next named , The Everburning Soul .
try to clear the room of adds before pulling him (more adds can spawn if you get to close to the fires)

The Everburning Soul

Not that difficult a fight. He will use an area attack at random intervals. This AOE will drain power from the group. The further you are from the named, the more power it drains.
So keep the group in as close as possible.

Head back out and to the left. there is another corridor that leads to a room full of centipede type creatures.
Here is also the next named , The Plague-ridden crawler Queen .

Clear all of the adds that you can (When we went in, there was a group right next t the named. The named had a larger agro radius so we had to use the Templar Soothe ability on the named to stop her agroing and then pull the group of adds.

The Plague-Ridden Crawler Queen

This named has a couple of nasty tricks that need to be countered.
Before starting, ensure everyone has their cure potions in a hotbar and ready to use.
Keep the tank at a distance from the rest of the group if you can.
At irregular intervals, the Queen will put a Noxious Dot on the entire group.
this DoT drains power and needs to be cured ASAP. As soon as you notice the DoT icon on yoru character,use a cure potion. If you wait for a healer to cure you all, by the time they get around to everyone, you will have lost too much power.

At intervals the Queen will go underground (you will be warned with an onscreen message)
While she is underground you must stop attacking her.
Any attacks will cause her to rush at the person attacking and hit them hard.
While the Queen is underground, the whole group should spread out. being close to other members of the group seems to cause her to attack harder.
You will receive another onscreen message when she resurfaces and you can ressume attacking.

Now head back to the water where the statue is.
You will see a staircase leading down with a group of undead halfway down.
These groups will respawn, just like the groups on the top floor.
You need to use the same tactic here, of pulling and keeping moving.
At the bottom of the stairs, turn right and then into the first room on the right, where you will find the next Maledictive Terror.

if you want to use the run and FD method, you need to charge into the room containing the terror and get right into the far, left-hand corner.

Once the Terror is dead (thankfully, there are only 2 of these in the zone) fight your way to the far end of the corridor.
In the room at the end you will find the final named The Bonegrider .

The Bonegrinder

This mob had a large amount of HP but no other noticable tactic required.
